Sari and Blake McConnell deeply value community involvement, a principle instilled in their children—Jacob, Ellis, and D—from a young age. On the first Thanksgiving after their daughter was born, they dropped off gift baskets forclients at First Step for Families (FSF) in San Mateo, where they met a client and her newborn just home from the hospital. They knew firsthand that a dry baby equaled a happy baby (and mom) and wanted to help offset the recurring expense of diapers for FSF families. The McConnell family began donating diapers to LifeMoves monthly, a tradition that has continued for over 10 years. Today, at the ages of 21, 18, and 12, their children proudly deliver the diapers themselves each month. Sari shared, “It is remarkable to me that our 1-year-old baby who inspired us to donate diapers is now walking into the site and donating them herself!”
A particularly impactful moment was when their middle child recognized a classmate at FSF, reinforcing the reality that homelessness can affect anyone. “This experience has profoundly shaped our whole family’s commitment to caring for everyone in our community. Our kids are living our values.” Thank you to the McConnell family for your generous support.
